Yummy & Easy Guacamole

This is an old family recipe for yummy & easy guacamole (a.k.a. Avocado Dip). The recipe makes one bowl of guacamole for a "normal" party.

It can be used as a dip for corn chips (best), on burgers (pretty good too), or anything else.

Equipment:

Number Item
1 Large Mixing Bowl
1 Ordinary Table Fork
1 Ordinary Table Spoon
1 Ordinary Table Knife
1 Garlic Press

Ingredients:

Amount Ingredient
5 (or whatever) Avocados (I use Hass Avocados, the softer, the better!)
1/2 Lemon
3 Cloves of Garlic
1/2 Jar Salsa (the fresher, the better)

Directions:

So, one of the difficulties in making guacamole is getting the "meat" of the avocados out of the shell. This recipe gives an easy way to do this.

The other thing that I think makes good guacamole is NOT using a food processor. This recipe also makes this easy to do, and produces guacamole with a great consistency.

I like to do things assembly line style, and so apply each step in the directions to all the avocados at the same time, rather than doing them one by one.

Please refer the figures to illustrate the steps.

  1. Using a table knife, carefully slice the avocados in half (Fig. 2).
  2. Holding an avocado half in your hand, use the table knife to carefully slice the meat in the shell in one direction (Fig. 3). The shell should be thick enough to allow you to do this if you use a table knife.
  3. Now slice the same half in the other direction (Fig. 5).
  4. Then slice the same half in both diagonal directions (Fig. 6), giving you a well-diced avocado (Figs. 7-9).
  5. After slicing all the avocado halves, use the spoon to scoop the meat into the bowl (Figs. 10-12). This should be really easy at this point.
  6. Cut the lemon in half, and use the fork to juice one half (Fig. 14).
  7. Press the garlic cloves into the bowl.
  8. Use the fork to stir the contents of the bowl, until mixed to a nice consistency (Fig. 16). Again, you should not need a mixer for this.
  9. Mix in the salsa to add some kick (Fig. 17).
  10. Transfer the guacamole to a serving bowl (optional), and smooth the top with the fork (Fig. 18).
  11. Eat!! You can also chill the guacamole for about 1 hour before serving which will firm it up a little.
